Destination: Antarctica

Air Canada Advertisement

For this project I imagined a fictional flight path from Vancouver to Antarctica, designing a composite of 7 legally-sourced images to become an Air Canada print ad.

Antarctica is an incredibly unique and isolated world, a destination fit for soul-searching. I wanted the reader to be able to picture themselves in the icy landscape; I curated all photos and built the ad around the human figure shown. The colour palette is cool, dark and mysterious and includes the aurora australis in the night sky.

This project was an exploration in concept development + working non-destructively in Photoshop.

OBJECTIVE: to design a destination ad for the fictional launch of a new, non-stop route from YVR to Antarctica, including a partnership with Holland America cruises. Travellers would land in Ushuaia, Argentina (the world’s southernmost city) then board the SS Rotterdam, arriving to the Antarctic Peninsula in style.

TARGET AUDIENCE: the readership of Bold Traveller magazine, a Canadian print + online magazine aimed at an upscale market.

TONE: otherworldly, icy, serious.

PROGRAMS USED: Adobe Photoshop.
