Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales
Special Edition Book Design
This project is a modern, special edition re-release of Hansel and Gretel + a dozen more of my personal favourite Brothers Grimm fairy tales spread over 100 pages. All stories were found on the free online library Project Gutenberg.
Hansel and Gretel is a fairy tale about abandoned siblings that fall into the hands of a wicked witch living in a house made of sweets. This story was first released in 1812 by brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, famous collectors and publishers of German folklore.
This special edition cover is playful, with spilling sweets arranged in a chaotic pattern that is meant to juxtapose the typical darkness found in Brothers Grimm stories. The cotton candy colours are bright + modern.
TARGET AUDIENCE: youth interested in classic texts; new readers with a preference for short stories.
TONE: fresh, playful, light, modern.
PROGRAMS USED: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator.
